    Qualche aiutino in più.....

    Ciao a tutti....
    qualcuno potrebbe gentilmente dirmi se conosce,ha letto, o altro qualcosa sull'autismo, ma l'autismo solamente circoscritto al Mondo adulto......sembra che ci sia tanta roba ma se si va a vedere l'80% riguarda le radici,badi e cmq l'autismo vissuto dal bambino,in età precoce,ecc...ma dell'adulto autistico sto trovando ben poco,quasi niente a parte un libro.....articoli,libri,riviste?!?! HELP ,la mia ricerca x la mia tesi sta esaurendosi....

    Io avevo letto un bel libro sull'autismo di Uta Frith, sicuramente lo conosci... ma era centrato sulla sua spiegazione.

    grazie! mmm ancora non ho letto tanto sull'argomento..sto facendo una ricerca e tesi in tempi 1pokino veloci...ma comunque più che sullo spiegare cos'è l'autismo,ecc,la mia 1°parte della tesi verterà sull'evoluzione dell'autismo che diveien adulto......quindi il campo si restringe all'adulto solamente....è stata una decisione mia edella tutor..solo che ora...non trovo tantissiimO! ecco perchè m son riferita a voi..leggendo qua e là vedo che tante un sacco d consigli utiliii!!!

Relative to baseline, all of the participants exhibited increased responding for access to their high preference olfactory stimulus.     Empathizing and Systemizing in Adults with and without Autism Spectrum Conditions: Cross-Cultural Stability.

Three groups of participants took part: n = 48 people with autism spectrum, n = 137 general population controls, and n = 1,250 university student controls. Each participant completed the Empathy Quotient (EQ) and the Systemizing Quotient (SQ). Results: The autism spectrum condition (ASC) group scored significantly lower than controls on the EQ, and significantly higher on the SQ. Among both control groups, females scored significantly higher than males on the EQ, whilst males scored significantly higher than females on the SQ. The distribution of ‘brain types’, based on the difference between EQ and SQ scores, showed distinct profiles for people with ASC, control males and control females. The basis of this phenomenon, and its relationship to the central serotonergic dysfunction remains unclear. Platelet serotonin level (PSL) in 53 autistic adults and 45 healthy controls was measured. Mean PSL in autistic group (75.7 ± 37.4 ng/μL) was significantly higher than the control sample (59.2 ± 16.2 ng/μL) due to a presence of hyperserotonemic subjects which comprised 32% of the patients. PSL of autistic subjects did not correlate with the severity of symptoms, as measured by total CARS score, or the degree of mental retardation. However, significant negative relationship was observed between PSL and speech development, indicating the relationship between the peripheral 5HT concentrations and verbal abilities in autistic subjects.     Stalking, and Social and Romantic Functioning Among Adolescents and Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Parental reports were obtained for 25 ASD adolescents and adults (13–36 years), and 38 typical adolescents and adults (13–30 years). The ASD group relied less upon peers and friends for social (OR = 52.16, p < .01) and romantic learning (OR = 38.25, p < .01). Individuals with ASD were more likely to engage in inappropriate courting behaviours (χ<sup>2</sup> <sub> df = 19 </sub> = <sub> </sub>3168.74, p < .001) and were more likely to focus their attention upon celebrities, strangers, colleagues, and ex-partners (χ<sup>2</sup> <sub> df = 5 </sub>=<sub> </sub>2335.40, p < .001), and to pursue their target longer than controls ( t = −2.23, df = 18.79, p < .05). These results show that the diagnosis of ASD is pertinent when individuals are prosecuted under stalking legislation in various jurisdictions.     Brief Report: Can You See What is Not There? Low-level Auditory–visual Integration in Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The processing-level from which this impairment originates, however, remains unclear. We investigated low-level integration of auditory and visual stimuli in subjects with Autism Spectrum Disorder. High-functioning adult subjects with Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as age- and IQ-matched adults were tested using a task that evokes illusory visual stimuli, by presenting sounds concurrently with visual flashes. In both groups the number of sounds presented significantly affected the number of flashes perceived, yet there was no difference between groups. This finding implicates that any problems arising from integrating auditory and visual information must stem from higher processing stages in high-functioning adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder.     Change in Autism Symptoms and Maladaptive Behaviors in Adolescents and Adults with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Although many individuals’ symptoms remained stable, a greater proportion of the sample experienced declines than increases in their level of autism symptoms and maladaptive behaviors, and there were significant improvements in mean levels of symptoms. Individuals with mental retardation had more autism symptoms and maladaptive behaviors than those without mental retardation, and they improved less over time. Compared to adolescents, older sample members (31 and older) had fewer maladaptive behaviors and experienced more improvement in these behaviors over time.     Gestalt Perception and Local-Global Processing in High-Functioning Autism.

Data on of gestalt perception, visual illusions (VI), hierarchical letters (HL), Block Design (BD) and the Embedded Figures Test (EFT) were collected in adult males with HFA, schizophrenia, depression and normative controls. Individuals with HFA processed gestalt stimuli less in accord with gestalt laws, particularly regarding the principle of similarity. Gestalt processing correlated positively with global processing of the HL. EFT and BD performance correlated negatively with VI susceptibility in HFA. All clinical groups succumbed less to VI than the normative sample. Results suggest decreased gestalt perception in HFA, being associated with a more general local visual processing bias.     Communicative Competence and Metalinguistic Ability: Performance by Children and Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Relative to controls, those with ASD were less competent on a range of TLC-E tasks. No differences were found for either child or adult ASD groups on any of the TLC-E measures when re-classified as Asperger syndrome (AS) and high functioning autism (HFA) using DSM-IV language criterion. Hierarchical cluster analyses of individuals with ASD identified subgroups within the spectrum. The use of developmental language history as an identifying marker in autism is questioned. The findings suggest that comprehensive language assessments on individuals with ASD can provide clinically relevant information regarding the heterogeneity of language skills within the autistic spectrum.     Brief Report: Perception of Body Posture—What Individuals With Autism Spectrum Disorder might be Missing.

We investigated whether such atypical processing was restricted to the face or extended to social information found in body postures. An inversion paradigm compared recognition of upright and inverted faces, body postures, and houses. Typical adults demonstrated inversion effects for both faces and body postures, but adults with autism demonstrated only a face inversion effect. Adults with autism may not have a configural processing deficit per se, but instead may have strategies for recognizing faces not used for body postures.     Individual and Marital Adaptation in Men with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their Spouses: The Role of Social Support and Coping Strategies.

Twenty-one couples participated in the study and completed measures of stressor severity, social support, coping, individual and marital adaptation. Bivariate analyses showed that each of the model components was related to adaptation in men and women. Hierarchical regression analyses revealed that, after controlling for relevant demographics and stressor severity, informal support was a strong, and unique predictor of adaptation in both spouses (explained variance: 27–89%).     Adults with Autism Show Increased Sensitivity to Outcomes at Low Error Rates During Decision-Making.

Individuals with Autistic Disorder (AD) often show highly restricted and repetitive behavior that may interfere with adaptive decision-making. We assessed whether AD adults showed repetitive behavior on the choice task that was unaffected by changing task demands, by examining the influence of experimenter-determined error rates on decision-making. Sixteen AD adults and 14 typically developed subjects were administered a two-choice task using three error rate conditions. Although AD subjects showed occurrences of stereotyped responding, their decision-making behavior was strongly affected by changes in task demands, especially when they experienced frequent success.     Decreased false memory for visually presented shapes and symbols among adults on the autism spectrum.

High-functioning individuals with ASD can demonstrate subtle language impairments. However, relative preservation of spatial skills can also be observed. This study investigated false memory in both visual and verbal paradigms to elucidate whether adults with ASD would be more or less prone to illusory recognition in a visual paradigm that contained slides of geometric figures with minimal linguistic and semantic associative representation. In the verbal paradigm, modeled on the Deese-Roediger-McDermott method, those with ASD did not perform significantly better than a matched comparison group. In contrast, in the visual paradigm those with ASD were significantly better able to discriminate true items from lure items and were less likely to falsely recognize the lures. Findings from the visual paradigm provide further evidence of restricted associative networks in ASD, particularly in the spatial domain.     The Level and Nature of Autistic Intelligence.

Psychological Science, Aug2007, Vol. 18 Issue 8, p657-662, 6p, 3 graphs Abstract: Autistics are presumed to be characterized by cognitive impairment, and their cognitive strengths (e.g., in Block Design performance) are frequently interpreted as low-level by-products of high-level deficits, not as direct manifestations of intelligence. Recent attempts to identify the neuroanatomical and neurofunctional signature of autism have been positioned on this universal, but untested, assumption. We therefore assessed a broad sample of 38 autistic children on the preeminent test of fluid intelligence, Raven's Progressive Matrices. Their scores were, on average, 30 percentile points, and in some cases more than 70 percentile points, higher than their scores on the Wechsler scales of intelligence. Typically developing control children showed no such discrepancy, and a similar contrast was observed when a sample of autistic adults was compared with a sample of nonautistic adults.     PsychInfo ti dà solamente gli abstracts. Per leggere il testo completo devi abbonarti (e costa una paccata di dollari).
    Meglio che chiedi a me direttamente e di mando gli articoli che ti servono via mail. Il database che utilizzo io è Ebscohost, ma ci possono accedere solo gli psicologi iscritti ad un ordine regionale.

    Ho capito......grazie,queste informazioni mi servivano per capire bene come funziona....perchè iniziando ora il lavoro di ricerca e raccolta materiale alcune cose non sono "scritte da nessuna parte" e mi vgengono tante domande e dubbi! Se avrò bisogno la terrò conto di sicuro!ancora grazie
